CAMARILLO, CA — December 27, 2025 – Ventura County, CA
On Dec. 14, 2025, staff at St. John’s Seminary reported that two security cameras valued at more
than $1,500 had been stolen from the property in Camarillo.
According to Ventura County Sheriff’s Department the loss was discovered after the devices
were removed from their mounting locations.
One of the stolen cameras provided an early investigative lead. Video footage recorded before
the theft showed “a suspect wearing a hooded jacket and concealing their identity” as the camera
was taken. The images offered limited identifying features but confirmed the theft had been
carried out deliberately.
The following day, detectives received an unexpected break. One of the missing cameras
suddenly came back online.
Investigators were able to trace the device’s signal to a private residence within the city of Camarillo.
Detectives with the Camarillo Investigations Unit
responded to the location and confirmed that the stolen camera had been mounted on the exterior
of the home.
After documenting the evidence, detectives obtained a search warrant for the residence. The
warrant was later served, and investigators recovered both stolen security cameras during the
search.
As a result of an investigation, authorities identified Tristin James Yanez, as the
suspect.
Yanez was transported to Ventura County Jail where he was booked on a
charge of felony grand theft.
