Oroville Woman Arrested for Allegedly Fatally Shooting Husband
OROVILLE, CA — “On December 25, 2025, at approximately 0238 hours, the Butte County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) received a 911 call from the 2000 block of Cox Lane, Oroville, California. The caller, identified as Julie Castaneda, age 34, of Oroville, reported that someone had been shot at her residence. BCSO deputies were immediately dispatched and arrived on scene.
Upon arrival, deputies made contact with Julie Castaneda and located her husband inside the residence, identified as Carlos Castaneda, age 38, of Oroville. Carlos was transported to a local hospital. Despite lifesaving efforts provided by deputies and medical personnel, Carlos passed away.
Deputies and detectives conducted an extensive investigation. Detectives obtained a search warrant for the property and conducted a thorough search. During the search, detectives located firearms at the residence. They also discovered evidence that gave them cause to believe Julie Castaneda shot Carlos Castaneda. Julie Castaneda was subsequently placed under arrest for one count of murder. She is scheduled to appear in court at 3:00 p.m. today.
