CHICO – A stolen iPad contained an app that led police to the man who stole it. It started on October 24th when a call came in at 4:30 a.m. about a man opening vehicle doors in the Freshwater Creek area.

The citizen who called the Chico Police Department observed the suspect in action on his video surveillance system.

Then another resident reported to the police that someone had entered his vehicle and stole some of his belongings. This included an iPad.

Thankfully, that same iPad had a tracking device in it. Officers followed the signal coming from the iPad to an illegal camp.

Officers easily contacted a suspect in possession of the iPad. The suspect matched the description from the surveillance video.

37-year-old Ranjit Brar was arrested for possession of stolen property. Brar was already on probation for burglary.

Officers found other items in Brar’s pockets that had also been stolen earlier.
