DHSPD Recovers Stolen Vehicle After Driver Admits to Keyless Start and ‘Finding’ Abandoned Pickup
DESERT HOT SPIRINGS, CA — “On 12/7/25 around 9:45 AM, DHSPD officers spotted a “rollin’ stolen” pickup cruising down Little Morongo Road. A high-risk stop later, the driver immediately admitted the truck started without keys, strike #1.
Then officers noticed the steering column was completely busted open, strike #2.
And the driver, keeping the streak alive, said he “couldn’t believe his luck” when he found this user-friendly truck abandoned in the desert, strike #3.
Game over. The driver went to jail, and the truck went back to its rightful owner.
