MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA — On Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2025, at approximately 12:23 a.m., Mountain View Emergency Communications received a call from a reporting party stating that a suspect was attempting to break into their apartment in the 1000 block of El Monte Avenue. The suspect attempted to break through a shared wall. The victims did not know the suspect prior to the incident.
Responding officers observed the suspect attempting to break in while holding a knife. Officers attempted to verbally engage with the suspect, but he refused to comply with their commands and barricaded himself inside his apartment.
At 1:02 a.m. on Nov. 19, the Mountain View Police Department Special Weapons and Tactics Team (SWAT) and Crisis Negotiations Team (CNT) were deployed to the scene. During the incident, several residents were asked to evacuate or shelter in place as a precautionary measure for their safety. After several hours of negotiations, the suspect was arrested at approximately 5:50 a.m.
The City of Mountain View Fire Department (MVFD) was staged to render medical aid. The suspect, who sustained minor injuries prior to his arrest, was treated by MVFD paramedics and transported to Stanford Hospital for further care. No victims were injured during this incident.
The suspect, Jose Luis Valencia Sanchez, a 22-year-old Mountain View resident, was arrested for one count of California Penal Code 459 -Burglary, one count of California Penal Code 417 – Brandishing a weapon, one count of California Penal Code 594 – Vandalism, and one count of California Penal Code 245 – Assault with a deadly weapon.”
