MARTINEZ — A mother reportedly fatally stabbed her adult daughter on November 18.

Brittany E. Kazee, 36, of Martinez, was arrested the same day and booked into the Martinez Detention Facility.
She remains in custody in lieu of $1 million bond, pending further legal proceedings.

The family tragedy occurred during the middle of the afternoon. Martinez police received a report of
two women involved in a violent physical altercation at 1:41 p.m.

While responding officers were en-route additional callers phoned and reported that one of the women had been stabbed.

Police located the stabbing victim about three minutes after arriving at the scene. They found
Shahinyah M. Kazee, 19, lying unconscious in a parking outside an apartment building on Fig Tree
Lane in Martinez.

The victim was bleeding from severe stab wounds. Paramedics who also responded transported her
to a hospital in Walnut Creek, where she was pronounced dead, shortly afterwards.

Meanwhile, officers found and detained the victim’s mother in the vicinity. Brittany Kazee was placed
under arrest at 3:47 p.m.

Kazee was booked on suspicion of murder PC 187(A). Incidentally, the mother has a prior arrest on her record for a domestic violence incident in May 2013.

The investigation of the fatal stabbing of the daughter remains ongoing. Anyone with information can
