Man Allegedly Steals Credit Cards from School Teachers

FREMONT, CA — A man allegedly stole credit cards from school teachers throughout the San
Francisco Bay area, and also Yolo County.

Christopher Britton, 34, of Fairfield, remains in
custody ineligible for release on bond, pending a court hearing on November 14.

Fremont police collaborated with Walnut Creek police to arrest Britton. He was taken into
custody on November 7 in Contra Costa County. Britton is being housed at the West County
Detention Facility in Richmond.

Teachers’ credit cards were stolen at schools in Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin and Solano
counties, in addition to Yolo County. Britton allegedly used their credit cards to make
fraudulent purchases at retail stores. Additional items belonging to teachers were also
reported stolen.

Fremont police identified Britton as the suspect, following thefts at several schools in their city.
Britton was already wanted by then in multiple jurisdictions, for similar thefts that occurred in
temporarily unoccupied classrooms.

A Fremont school officer conducting follow-up investigatory activity in Walnut Creek saw
Britton returning a rental car—used for one of the school burglaries. “Officers quickly moved
in and arrested Britton after he attempted to flee,” Fremont police said in a prepared
statement.

The initial Fremont investigation was conducted by Fremont school police officers, who
tracked Britton’s activities. “Their collaboration with other neighboring agencies made this
arrest possible.”

Britton now faces charges in multiple jurisdictions for –
· Burglary
· Misrepresent as a credit card holder
· Unauthorized use of personal identifying information
· Loitering about a school when asked to leave
