Riverbank DUI Checkpoint Yields Three Arrests and Recovery of Two “Ghost” Guns
RIVERBANK, CA – “DUI Checkpoint in Riverbank Leads to Multiple Arrests and “Ghost” Guns Recovered
On the evening of October 31, the Stanislaus County Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) conducted a Driving Under the Influence (DUI) checkpoint in the City of Riverbank as part of ongoing efforts to reduce impaired driving and enhance roadway safety.
During the operation, approximately 870 vehicles passed through the checkpoint. Officers conducted several driver evaluations, resulting in three arrests for driving under the influence, the issuance of multiple traffic citations, and the recovery of two loaded firearms.
During the checkpoint, Deputy Orr observed a vehicle perform an illegal U-turn in an apparent attempt to avoid the checkpoint. He conducted a traffic enforcement stop and determined that the driver was operating a vehicle on a suspended license. Prior to towing the vehicle, Deputy Orr conducted an inventory search, during which he located two illegally manufactured “ghost” guns. The driver was arrested without incident.
DUI checkpoint locations are strategically selected based on data identifying areas with a higher frequency of impaired driving-related crashes. The primary goal of these checkpoints is to promote public safety by identifying and removing impaired drivers from the roadway before they can cause harm.
Funding for this operation was provided through a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS), administered by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
