Pedestrian Fatally Struck by SUV in Crosswalk Collision on North Fremont Avenue

MONTEREY, CA – “On October 31, 2025, at 7:04 A.M. Monterey Police Officers responded to a report of a vehicle versus pedestrian collision at North Fremont Avenue and Ramona Avenue. When officers arrived on scene, they determined a pedestrian was crossing North Fremont Avenue in the crosswalk when they were struck by a sport utility vehicle (SUV) traveling eastbound on North Fremont. The pedestrian suffered significant injuries and was transported to Natividad Hospital’s trauma center. Tragically, the pedestrian did not survive.

After the collision, the driver of the SUV remained on scene and was cooperative with investigators. Officers collected witness statements and surveillance video from the area. Upon reviewing the available evidence and information at this time, the investigation determined the pedestrian was crossing North Fremont Avenue at Ramona Avenue against a red traffic signal.

The SUV was traveling through the intersection with a green traffic signal and attempted to avoid the collision, but was unable to stop in time. Excessive speed, drugs or alcohol are not considered a factor in this incident.

This case remains under active investigation. Members of the public with any relevant information are urged to contact Lieutenant Ethan Andrews at (831) 646-3822. Anonymous tips may be submitted via (831) 646-3840.”
