Palm Springs Man Arrested in Yorkie Theft Case; Second Suspect and Dog Remain Missing

PALM SPRINGS, CA – “Press Release: Yorkie Napper Arrested – One still missing
On October 17, 2025, around 10:30 a.m., a man and woman were captured on video taking two Yorkshire Terriers, Maggie and Winnie, after the dogs accidentally escaped from their home.

Following an investigation, detectives identified the suspects as Jose Marta Serrano, 41, of Palm Springs, and Cassaundra Evers, 44, of Cathedral City. Investigators determined the pair took the dogs with the intent to collect reward money they assumed would be offered.

Maggie was safely returned on November 1, 2025. On November 6, 2025, Serrano was arrested and booked into custody on the following felony charges:

182(a)(1) PC – Conspiracy to Commit a Crime
487(e) PC – Grand Theft
3455(a) PC – PRCS Revocation Hearing

Detectives are continuing efforts to locate Cassaundra Evers for questioning regarding her involvement. Winnie, a light brown (almost blonde) Yorkshire Terrier, approximately 3 years old, remains missing.

Anyone with information about Evers’ whereabouts or sightings of Winnie is asked to contact Detective Brook Edney at Brooklyn.Edney@palmspringsca.gov.
