BERKELEY — Two suspects were recently arrested and charged for allegedly shooting at an
occupied house.

Ernest E. Portlock, 44, of Emeryville, and Lanika Connors, 41, of Berkeley,
were booked at Alameda County Santa Rita Jail.

Gunfire erupted on the 1000 block of Addison Street on October 12, shortly before 6:30 p.m.
“The shooting may have been the result of a preceding altercation between a group on the
street,” Berkeley police said in a prepared statement.

Portlock allegedly fired a handgun into a residence, based on evidence from surveillance
video, and witness statements. It seems Portlock ran from the scene and jumped into a
waiting car that Connors was driving. An automated license plate reader identified that car as
registered to Connors.

Berkeley detectives obtained arrest warrants for Portlock and Connors. Berkeley police
collaborated with San Francisco police to arrest Portlock at San Francisco International
Airport on October 24. Portlock was taken into custody at 11:40 p.m., when he arrived on a
flight from Jamaica.

Connors was apprehended three days later. She was arrested in Berkeley on October 27 at
8:34 a.m., after surveillance cameras detected her vehicle being driven.
Multiple charges were filed against Portlock, who has prior convictions for possession of
cocaine base for sale, and forgery. His new charges include –

· Shooting at an inhabited dwelling
· Discharge of a firearm with gross negligence
· Criminal possession of a firearm while masked
· Possession of a firearm by a felon
· Possession of ammunition by a prohibited person
Multiple charges filed against Connors include –
· Shooting at an inhabited dwelling
· Discharge of a firearm with gross negligence
· Accessory after the fact
