SAN LEANDRO — Some neighbors can be downright dangerous. Police arrested a man after he “accidentally” fired a bullet through his downstairs neighbor’s ceiling below.

His arrest occurred in the early hours of August 25, following the incident late on the night of August 24. He was handling a loaded firearm, when it fired for unknown reasons. One bullet penetrated the floor and traveled to the apartment directly below.

His neighbor escaped injury and immediately called the police to report the gunshot and damage to his ceiling. But that was only the beginning of the man’s problems with the law.

Apparently, a whole lot more goes on the second floor. Responding officers located and confiscated the suspected firearm. While investigating, officers located several other firearms inside the apartment. Police also found evidence of drug trafficking.

First things first. The man tried explaining that he accidentally discharged a firearm. Officers weren’t mollified by his explanation, nor the fact that he had several guns in his apartment. In fact, a records check revealed that two of the weapons were reported stolen.

Besides questioning the man about the firearms, officers located illicit drugs packaged for sale, and drug paraphernalia. In addition, police found wads of cash lying around in the man’s second floor apartment.

Shortly afterward, police arrested 29-year-old Minh Huynh. He was taken to Santa Rita Jail, and booked on charges for the weapons and drugs found in his possession.
