San Bernardino County Deputy Killed in Rancho Cucamonga Shooting; Suspect Apprehended After High-Speed Pursuit
RANCHO CUCAMONGA, CA – San Bernardino County Sheriff’s deputy was fatally shot Monday afternoon while responding to a call in Rancho Cucamonga, leading to a high-speed pursuit and the apprehension of a suspect.
On Monday, October 27, 2025, at approximately 12:37 p.m., deputies from the Rancho Cucamonga Station were dispatched to a residence in the 12300 block of Hollyhock Drive regarding reports of a man with a gun threatening a female. Upon arrival, the deputies were immediately met with gunfire. Deputy Andrew Nunez, a 28-year-old deputy sheriff, was struck. Nunez was airlifted to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased.
The suspect, identified as Angelo Jose Saldivar, a 47-year-old resident of San Bernardino, fled the scene. This initiated a pursuit involving deputies and allied agencies that traveled eastbound on the 210 Freeway. The suspect drove at speeds exceeding 150 miles per hour before a narcotics deputy in an unmarked vehicle successfully utilized a pursuit intervention technique (PIT). The maneuver resulted in a collision with the suspect at the 210 Freeway and Campus Avenue, which terminated the pursuit.
Saldivar was transported to a local hospital and is reported to be in stable condition. The Sheriff’s Department noted that he is not affiliated with any law enforcement agency. He is scheduled to be booked for murder (PC 187) upon receiving medical clearance from the hospital.
