Colton Man Arrested in Rialto for Alleged Jackhammer Theft from Work Truck

RIALTO, CA – Law enforcement officials responded to a reported theft in the 2000 block of South Riverside Avenue on October 20, 2025. The incident involved a jackhammer valued at $2,100, which was reported stolen from a work truck.

Investigation into the matter, including review of surveillance footage, indicated that the theft occurred on October 15, 2025. The footage showed a male subject, later identified as 42-year-old Jason Gomez, a resident of Colton, utilizing bolt cutters to remove the jackhammer from the truck. The subject then allegedly placed the stolen equipment into a vehicle and departed the location.

On October 21, 2025, the Rialto Police Department’s Detective Bureau, supported by patrol officers, located Mr. Gomez operating the identified suspect vehicle within the city of Rialto. Officers subsequently executed a high-risk traffic stop, and Mr. Gomez was taken into custody without further incident.

A search of the suspect’s vehicle following the arrest yielded evidence related to the commission of the alleged crime. Mr. Gomez was transported and booked into the West Valley Detention Center. He faces one charge of Grand Theft, specified as Penal Code 487(a) – Grand Theft: Money/Labor/Property Over $400. The Rialto Police Department stated it maintains its commitment to investigating and resolving reported criminal activity.
