Suspect in Monterey Felony Hit-and-Run Incidents Apprehended, Charged

MONTEREY, CA — On October 18, 2025, Monterey Police Officers responded to a report of a hit-and-run collision near the intersection of Fairgrounds Road and Casa Verde Way at approximately 11:10 p.m.

The driver responsible for the initial collision was later identified as Ulises Hernandez, 40, of Madera, California. Investigation determined that Hernandez, who had reportedly attended a party at the Monterey County Fairgrounds earlier in the evening, was driving a red Toyota Corolla eastbound on Fairgrounds Road, just east of Casa Verde Way, when he struck the rear of a silver Honda Pilot. A juvenile passenger in the Honda Pilot sustained injuries as a result of the impact.

Following the collision, the driver of the Honda Pilot exited the vehicle to speak with Hernandez. Hernandez subsequently reversed the Toyota Corolla and departed the location, striking a parked white Honda CR-V on the north curb of Fairgrounds Road before leaving the area.

While officers were investigating the initial incident, a second hit-and-run collision was reported in the 2100 block of North Fremont Street. Responding officers located Hernandez’s unoccupied red Toyota Corolla, which had collided with a parked silver Honda CR-V. The vehicle displayed significant front-end damage. Hernandez had fled the scene on foot. Inside the vehicle, officers located two pairs of brass knuckles, a violation of California Penal Code (PC) 21810.

Officers located and apprehended Hernandez at a nearby hotel at approximately 9:30 a.m. on October 19, 2025. He was taken into custody without incident and booked into the Monterey County Jail for violations including California Vehicle Code (CVC) 20001 (Hit and Run Causing Injury), CVC 20002 (Hit and Run), CVC 12500 (Unlicensed Driver), and PC 21810 (Possession of Metal Knuckles). Hernandez’s bail was set at $10,000. The Monterey Police Department released a statement reminding the public to operate vehicles responsibly and remain at the scene of any collision.
