Butte County Authorities Make Arrest in Shoplifting, Identity Theft Case

OROVILLE, CA  –– “The Butte County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) and the Oroville Police Department (OPD) have identified an individual involved in both shoplifting and identity theft. The suspect, identified as Aimee Henson, age 49, of Corning, initially provided a false identity after being arrested for shoplifting at an Oroville store.

The incident originated on October 16, 2025, when loss prevention personnel at the store detained Henson for shoplifting. During the initial contact with law enforcement, Henson presented a driver’s license belonging to a deceased individual and maintained the false identity throughout the investigation and her interactions with responding OPD officers.

OPD personnel later located records regarding the deceased individual and contacted BCSO for assistance. In a joint investigation conducted by BCSO and OPD, investigators confirmed the suspect’s true identity as Aimee Henson, a former roommate of the deceased individual. Additional evidence, including store surveillance footage, supported the identity theft findings.

On October 20, 2025, Henson was arrested by detectives and deputies during a traffic enforcement stop in Chico. She was taken into custody on a felony charge of providing a false identity to law enforcement, in violation of California Penal Code 529(a)(3). During the arrest, suspected fentanyl was located in Henson’s purse, leading to an additional charge of possession of a controlled substance.”
