OXNARD, CA  — October 11, 2025 –  Detectives with the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office have arrested 22-year-old Oxnard resident Eddie Alfredo Cortez on suspicion of sexually assaulting an intoxicated woman earlier this
month.

According to Ventura County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Det. Mitchell Peterson, the
alleged assault happened on the night of Sept. 9, “after Cortez met the 21-year-old victim
through social media.”

The two arranged to meet in person, and Cortez reportedly drove her to
an area in unincorporated Oxnard.

There, the pair reportedly drank alcohol provided by Cortez.

Not long thereafter, the victim began to feel sick and disoriented.

“She experienced nausea, dizziness, and a loss of motor function.”

While she was incapacitated, Cortez allegedly sexually assaulted her and then drove her away from the area.
Two days later, on September 11, the victim reported the incident to deputies at the Ventura
County Sheriff’s Headquarters Station, prompting detectives from the Major Crimes Bureau’s
Sexual Assault Unit to open an investigation.

They gathered evidence “corroborating the victim’s account” and developed probable cause for Cortez’s arrest.

On Sept. 30, investigators made contact with Cortez at his residence and took him into custody.

He was transported to Ventura County Jail, where he was book on charges of rape of an
intoxicated person and kidnapping with intent to commit rape. He remains in custody with his
bail set at $500,000.
