NOVATO, CA — Police arrested two teenagers with e-motorcycles suspected of driving recklessly
on a public street.
The suspects were riding electric motorcycles, which require a license,
registration, and insurance.
They were nabbed in downtown Novato on a Saturday night.
The two joyriders were observed on October 4 at approximately 8 p.m. It seems the young
riders threw caution to wind, but fortunately no one was injured.
“A officer patrolling the downtown area saw two people riding recklessly, and running stop
signs,” Novato police said in a prepared statement.
“The officer initiated a traffic stop, and the two riders fled from the officer. Officers saw the
riders get off the e-motorcycles. The riders ran down a pathway between Ford Way and
Donna Street.”
A brief foot chase ensued before the two suspects were apprehended.
One of the suspects, Zane A. Bicknell, 18, of San Rafael, was arrested on Donna Street shortly afterwards.
The second unidentified suspect, a 17-year-old Novato resident, was found hiding near Yukon
Way, and taken into custody.
Both suspects were arrested for reckless driving, and resisting/obstructing an officer. In
addition, the juvenile suspect were also arrested for probation violation.
Both e-motorcycles were impounded to remove them from the streets of Novato. E-
motorcycles are different than slowing moving e-bikes, which have pedals and electric
motors.
