Wanted Felon Apprehended in Salinas with Loaded Firearm & Methamphetamine

SALINAS, CA  — A 38 year old Salinas man who was known to law enforcement as a wanted felon was taken into custody by the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office on September 29, 2025, following a brief foot pursuit.

At approximately 10:18 p.m., a Deputy Sheriff observed Kory Yokomizo, in the area of Alvin Drive and Natividad Road. A records check confirmed Yokomizo was a known wanted felon. Upon contact, the suspect attempted to conceal himself and subsequently fled on foot.

During the pursuit, Mr. Yokomizo discarded a firearm before he was detained by deputies and a Salinas Police officer. Law enforcement recovered a loaded 9mm Smith & Wesson semi-automatic handgun.

Investigators determined that Mr. Yokomizo is a convicted felon with two prior strikes and a documented member of the Norteño criminal street gang. Following his transport to the Monterey County Jail, deputies located 2.03 grams of methamphetamine concealed in his clothing.

In addition to the outstanding felony arrest warrant, Mr. Yokomizo was booked into the Monterey County Jail on multiple new felony charges, including felon in possession of a firearm, resisting arrest, carrying a concealed firearm as a gang member, carrying a loaded firearm in public, and possession of narcotics in a jail facility.

Sheriff Tina Nieto released a statement acknowledging the quick actions of the deputies in removing a loaded firearm and illegal drugs from the neighborhood.
