Man on Parole for Attempted Murder Arrested Again on Suspicion of Same Crime

REDDING, CA — “On September 21, 2025, at approximately 10:15 p.m., Redding Police officers responded to a reported stabbing in the 1700 block of Market Street in downtown Redding.

The investigation determined that the victim, Daniel Wallace, 38, of Redding, was walking in the area when he stopped to talk to Geoffrey Kelly, 67, who was sitting on a bench. Wallace asked Kelly for a cigarette, and an argument followed. Without provocation, Kelly produced a knife and stabbed Wallace once in the chest.

Officers arrived quickly, detained Kelly, and provided medical aid to Wallace until medical personnel arrived. Wallace was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

About an hour before the stabbing, the victim in this case was contacted by officers, unresponsive, on the Diestlehorse Bridge, surrounded by drug paraphernalia. He was transported by ambulance for medical treatment. While en route to the hospital, Wallace became combative with medics and fled out of the back of the ambulance. Officers were actively looking for Wallace to check his welfare when the stabbing call came in.

The suspect, Geoffrey Kelly, is currently on parole for attempted homicide.

Kelly was arrested for attempted homicide and booked into the Shasta County Jail.”
