Authorities Arrest Man Accused of Multiple Sexual Assaults Across San Joaquin, Sacramento Counties
“On July 3, 2025, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office arrested Bernarnino Vazquez, 25, of Rio Vista, following an incident involving the discharge of a shotgun. The next day, the Sacramento Police Department filed additional charges after Vazquez was positively identified in a photo line-up for allegedly assaulting a massage therapist.
San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office investigators were then able to link Vazquez to cases under investigation in our jurisdiction. During an interview with our detectives, Vazquez confessed to multiple sexual assaults across Thornton, Isleton, Elk Grove, Stockton, and Sacramento, with the earliest reported on January 12, 2025.
Vazquez is currently being held at the Sacramento County Main Jail on firearm and assault charges. Additional charges are expected from the San Joaquin County District Attorney’s Office as the investigation continues.
Investigators also noted that challenges in this case included a delay in receiving surveillance footage from Starbucks, which would have been far more useful within days rather than weeks. Quick access to video evidence allows detectives to connect cases sooner, protect potential victims, and stop offenders faster.
We also want to remind the community: if you see something, say something. In one of these cases, a victim reported that as she screamed for help, porch lights shut off as she was being attacked. If you believe someone may be in danger, PLEASE contact law enforcement immediately.
Anyone with information related to this case is encouraged to contact San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office investigators at 209-468-4400.”
