“Just after 10:15 PM on Saturday, February 24, 2024, Sacramento County Sheriff Central Patrol Deputies responded to a restaurant on the 5900 block of Florin Road to the report of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered the victim, 38-year-old Joseph SOTO, suffering from a gunshot wound to his chest area. Deputies rendered first aid, and Soto was transported to a local hospital.

Throughout the investigation, Soto was expected to survive his injuries, as it was initially determined that his injury was non-life-threatening. Unfortunately, Soto’s condition worsened, and on March 21, 2024, he ultimately died from his injuries.

Detectives from the Sheriff’s Crimes Against Persons Unit and the Homicide Bureau continued their investigation, interviewed witnesses, and gathered evidence, including surveillance video. Based on their investigation, they learned Soto may have been in an argument outside of the restaurant with another adult male, where he was shot as a result.

Detectives identified the suspect as Alimohammed Hamid.

Yesterday, April 4, 2024, Hamid was located by Detectives from the Sheriff’s Major Crimes Bureau and arrested without incident. Hamid was transported to the Sacramento County Main Jail, where he was booked into custody for PC 187(A) – Murder. Hamid remains in custody, ineligible for bail, and is scheduled to appear in court on April 8, 2024.”
