OAKLAND., CA — A man was arrested and charged for allegedly shooting at police responding to
a report of a domestic disturbance.
Jesse Fahrner, 54, of Oakland, remains in custody at Alameda County Santa Rita Jail, denied bond for release.
Oakland officers responded to an apartment complex on West Grand Avenue, where a 911
caller reported the disturbance on August 8.
Gunfire erupted when officers arrived at the scene at approximately 1:30 a.m.
Officers knocked on the door of apartment and announced themselves as Oakland police.
That’s when shots were fired from a semiautomatic handgun, according to a prepared
statement from the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office.
“From inside the apartment Fahrner allegedly fired his weapon, nearly hitting officers after
they knocked. A woman and two children were present inside the apartment.”
Fortunately, no one was reported injured.
Oakland police placed Fahrner under arrest on August 8 at 2:43 a.m.
The incident was reviewed by the DA’s office which filed charges against him for shooting at the officers.
Fahrner is charged with five counts of attempted willful, deliberate, and premeditated
attempted murder.
He is also charged with five additional counts of assault on officer with
semiautomatic firearm.
His charges include sentencing enhancements if Fahrner is convicted.
Additional charges were filed for felony child abuse because the shots were fired while
children were present. Incidentally, Fahrner was previously arrested following a domestic
violence incident in March 2024.
