Additional Victims Report Sex-Related Crimes by Salinas Massage Provider
SALINAS, CA — “Additional victims have come forward after Monterey County Sheriff Tina M. Nieto announced the arrest of 58-year-old Anastacio Ramos Rubio of Salinas for committing sex related crimes while providing massage services.
The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office was originally contacted by the family member of a victim who had reported her mother had been touched inappropriately while receiving a massage from Rubio on the 1000-Block of Fontes Lane in the Boronda area of Salinas. The victim reported that while she received massage services from Mr. Rubio, he injected her with an unknown substance that he stated would help her relax. He also provided the victim with unknown type pills.
Since announcing the arrest of Mr. Rubio, several additional persons have contacted the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office to report that they are victims of crimes committed while receiving services from Rubio.
In the Hispanic community, Rubio is more commonly referred to as a “sobador,” which translates into a masseur or traditional healer who uses massage to treat ailments. It is not uncommon for members of the Hispanic community to share information with one another about “sobadores” that perform these services. These individuals may not be licensed or trained to perform these services.
Our investigation leads us to believe that there are additional victims who have received services from Mr. Rubio and may be victims of similar types of crimes.
Rubio is a Hispanic male, 5-10, 220, with black hair and brown eyes. He is predominantly Spanish speaking. Mr. Rubio is believed to have been living in the Salinas area for approximately two years.
Rubio remains in the Monterey County Jail for charges of Penetration with a Foreign Object, Sexual Battery, and Practicing Medicine Without a License. His bail has been set at $1,000,000.00
If you or someone you know believes you may be a victim or have additional information regarding our investigation, we ask that you contact Detective Rodrigo Lopez at 831-253-6050 or by email at LopezR3@countyofmonterey.gov.”
