CORTE MADERA — Police responding to a reported burglary in-progress arrested two
suspects at a shopping mall.
Clarence T. Simpson, 37, of Fairview, and a 15-year-old juvenile
from Fremont each face multiple charges.
On August 1 shortly after midnight, a security guard saw the suspects and phoned for the
police.
“The guard observed two individuals attempting to break glass windows and doors,”
Central Marin Police Authority said in a prepared statement.
Officers detained Simpson and the juvenile at The Village of Corte Madera shopping mall.
They were both wearing, hoods, masks and sunglasses.
“Surveillance video confirmed they were the same individuals attempting to break into the store,” officials said.
A stolen vehicle that the suspects apparently used was found parked nearby. Officers
searched the vehicle and recovered two loaded semi-automatic handguns, and two high
capacity magazines. Police later returned the vehicle to its rightful owner.
Simpson was booked into Marin County Jail for multiple weapons-related charges. Simpson is
a previously convicted felon prohibited from possessing any firearm.
Simpson’s other open charges include receiving/possession of a stolen vehicle, and conspiracy to commit crime.
He was also booked for possession of a controlled substance, among other charges. Simpson remains in custody in lieu of $25,000 bond.
The juvenile was booked into Marin County Juvenile Hall. He was booked for attempted
burglary, conspiracy to commit a crime, and wearing a mask for unlawful purposes.
