Bay Area Woman Arrested, Accused of Falsely Reporting Her Child Missing
“The Milpitas Police Department has concluded its investigation into the reported disappearance of a 9-year-old, Harshail Kumar, who was reported missing on the morning of July 3, 2025.
Following an extensive search operation involving the Milpitas Police Department, the Santa Clara County Search and Rescue team, and assistance from community members and volunteers, detectives determined that the report of Harshail’s disappearance was fabricated.
Harshail was found safe and unharmed, though it was discovered that he had been intentionally concealed by his mother, Rohnita Prasad, who falsely claimed he had gone missing.
As a result of the investigation, Prasad, a 46-year-old Milpitas resident, was arrested and booked into the Santa Clara County Jail for Child Endangerment, intimidating or dissuading a witness or victim, and filing a false police report.
The Santa Clara County Department of Family and Children Services (DFCS) is actively working to determine appropriate placement for Harshail and to ensure his continued safety and well-being.”
