Santa Cruz Arrested with Fentanyl, Cash After Fleeing into Local Restaurant
SANTA CRUZ, CA — ”In the late evening hours on June 24th, SCPD officers attempted to detain Daniel Wynn who was observed in the area of the 100 block of S. River St. This area has been designated as a high crime area by the department, specifically for illegal narcotics activity. Mr. Wynn was known to the officers due to his extensive criminal history and the fact that he was currently on Post-Release Community Supervision (PRCS). PRCS is similar to formal probation and/or parole terms and this program was enacted pursuant to California Assembly Bill 109 (AB109), otherwise known as the “Public Safety Realignment” Act. Wynn has been arrested and convicted for multiple crimes in the past which mostly relate to resisting arrest, crimes involving violence, illegal firearms possession, and narcotics sales in the city of Santa Cruz. During Wynn’s most previous arrest in the fall of 2023, he resisted SCPD officers and one of our K9 officers was seriously injured as a result. Mr. Wynn served a brief sentence in custody and was released with PRCS.
When officers attempted to detain Mr. Wynn on the evening hours of June 24th pursuant to his PRCS terms, he again fled from officers on foot and tried to escape by running into the kitchen of Woodstock’s Pizza. However, Mr. Wynn was detained a short time later. The officers searched Mr. Wynn and his nearby parked vehicle afterwards. The officers discovered that he was in possession of large quantities of narcotics for sale (including the lethal drug fentanyl) and nearly $30,000 in cash. Mr. Wynn was arrested for multiple narcotics sales offenses, as well as resisting arrest, possessing pepper spray as a convicted felon, and for violating the terms of his PRCS terms.”
