Convicted Felon Arrested for DUI and Possession of Loaded Firearm During Castroville Patrol Stop

”PRESS RELEASE – Subject Arrested For Being a Convicted Felon Who Had Been Driving While Intoxicated and Unlawfully Carrying a Loaded and Concealed Firearm On His Person –
A Monterey County Sheriff’s Deputy conducting proactive patrols in Castroville has arrested a subject who was found to be driving while intoxicated. The subject was also found to be a convicted felon who had a concealed firearm and ammunition on his person.
>At about 2:30 AM on May 25th, 2025, a Monterey County Sheriff’s Deputy was patrolling the area of Rico Street and Davis Street in Castroville. The deputy observed a suspicious vehicle in the area that stopped. The driver, later identified as 35-year-old Humberto Vasquez of Salinas, got out of his vehicle and walked into a nearby park. The deputy contacted Vasquez and immediately noticed he appeared to be under the influence of alcohol. The deputy proceeded to conduct a pat-down of Vasquez and discovered that he had a loaded and concealed revolver in his front pocket along with additional ammunition. He was arrested without incident. California Highway Patrol officers responded to the scene and conducted a DUI investigation and confirmed he had been operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol.
Vasquez was confirmed to be a convicted felon who is prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition.
Monterey County Sheriff Tina Nieto stated, “This is a clear example of the dangers that our deputies and all law enforcement personnel face each day they put on the uniform. An intoxicated convicted felon that is unlawfully carrying a loaded and concealed gun while driving a vehicle poses a great risk to our communities. On this Memorial Day Weekend, we are grateful for our Monterey County Sheriff’s Deputies and California Highway Patrol Officers for getting this dangerous individual off the streets.”
Humberto Vasquez was booked into the Monterey County Jail for DUI, being a convicted felon in possession of a loaded and concealed firearm and other firearms related violations.
