CASTRO VALLEY, CA — Alameda County Sheriff’s Office deputies recovered firearms and
arrested a suspect implicated in a Castro Valley shooting.
Donovan T. Wright, 28, of Oakland, is being held in custody in lieu of $260,000 bond.
Wright was booked into Alameda County Santa Rita Jail, following his arrest on May 22. A
search of his apartment turned up an assault rifle, two loaded handguns, and a small quantity
of cocaine.
Deputies who apprehended Wright received assistance from specialized law enforcement
units. A Dublin police K-9 unit and a police drone were also used.
Wright’s arrest pertains to a shooting that happened on April 17. Wright allegedly fired
multiple shots from a vehicle at a driver inside another vehicle. The gunfire occurred in the
vicinity of Castro Valley Boulevard and Baker Road. Witnesses reported the exchange of
gunfire between the two vehicles.
Deputies who responded to the shooting were unable to locate any persons or any vehicles
involved. A gang suppression unit took over the investigation, which ultimately identified
Wright as a shooting suspect.
Investigators determined the two drivers involved knew each other. One used a BB gun and
one used a real gun. Wright allegedly opened fire at the other driver, after the other driver
allegedly fired a BB gun at him.
At this point only Wright faces charges. Multiple firearms-related charges were filed against
Wright on May 27. His charges include possession of an assault weapon, and possession of
a controlled substance with a firearm.
