FREMONT, CA — A suspect with multiple prior convictions was arrested for residential burglary and
attempted arson after fleeing from police.

The suspect is 39-year-old Michael C. Bullock, a repeat offender from Fremont, with 34 prior arrests on his record.

Police responded May 19 to a burglary in progress on the 38000 block of Fremont Boulevard. A
witness reported seeing a man break through the victim’s front door.

Fremont police described what happened next in a prepared statement. Officers surrounded the
residence and deployed a drone to observe the area from above. The suspect fled from the back of
the residence, and he was monitored by the drone operator.

Bullock ran into a nearby field, and he tried to hide in tall grass, not far from the crime scene. Officers
attempted to convince Bullock to come out and surrender. Bullock refused, and he was seen
attempting to set alight the tall grass. A police dog was released and Bullock was apprehended at 7:55
p.m.

Bullock was booked for the burglary, and an outstanding warrant for a robbery. He remains in custody
at Alameda County Santa Rita Jail, pending arraignment on June 2. He has prior convictions in
Alameda County for assault, battery, second-degree burglary, and grand theft.

Since 2016, Bullock has been arrested 35 times, mostly for assaults, burglaries and robberies, in
Alameda County. Bullock also has prior arrests in San Joaquin County for assault with a deadly
weapon, robbery, and DUI alcohol/drugs. In addition, he was previously arrested in Santa Cruz County
for robbery.
