”Incident: Criminal Threats
Date/Time: May 20, 2025 / 7:40 P.M.
Location: Monache High School, 960 North Newcomb Street; Porterville
Victim(s): Confidential Juvenile Victims
Suspect: Confidential Juvenile Suspect, 16-Year-Old Woodville Resident
On May 20, 2025 at approximately 7:40 P.M., the Porterville Police Department began receiving numerous tips from community members regarding the threat of a school shooting at Monache High School that was to take place on May 21, 2025. The threat consisted of a photograph of what appeared to be a gun pointed at a television that was posted on social media platforms. The photograph was captioned with a threat indicating that a school shooting was to occur at Monache High School on May 21, 2025.
After the department received the report of this threat, Detectives were summoned to assume the investigation. Detectives worked diligently throughout the night to identify the suspect who posted the threat, which ultimately led to the contact of a 16-year-old Monache High School student who resides in Woodville. Detectives developed credible information the juvenile posted the threat. During a search of the juvenile’s residence, Detectives determined there were no firearms within the household and the juvenile did not have access to firearms. The juvenile suspect was arrested on a charge of Criminal Threats and was booked at the Juvenile Detention Facility. Pursuant to state law, the identity of the suspect will remain confidential.
The Porterville Police Department has been in communication with staff at Porterville Unified School District regarding this threat and the progress of the investigation. We have coordinated with Porterville Unified School District for increased presence at local schools, as the safety of students and staff is a top priority of our department.
