SAN RAFAEL, CA — Marin County Sheriff’s Office detectives arrested a suspect implicated in
school burglaries in three San Francisco Bay Area counties.
Christopher Britton, 34, of Fairfield, allegedly stole bank cards from teachers that were used to make fraudulent charges.
Reports of a school burglary spree and identity theft started in February.
The Marin sheriff’s office received a report of a suspicious man loitering at an elementary school. When teachers
returned to classrooms from an all-school assembly, bank cards were missing from their
purses or wallets.
Eventually, teachers at four schools in Marin County reported thefts of bank cards and
fraudulent charges posted on their accounts.
When these school burglaries occurred, Britton was free on bond, following his arrest in Solano County for residential burglaries.
“Britton committed nearly identical burglaries at elementary schools in Alameda and Contra Costa counties,” according to the Marin sheriff’s office. “A multi-agency operation, led by the
Vacaville Police Department was conducted to apprehended Britton.”
Danville, Dublin and Lafayette police also collaborated in an investigation with the Marin
County Sheriff’s Office.
Marin detectives arrested Britton on April 25 at 9:41 a.m., during a search at 2434 Sheldon Drive in Fairfield.
Britton was booked into Marin County Jail for several counts of burglary and identity theft
involving fraud. Incidentally, he has prior arrests on his record for burglaries, identity theft, and
other offenses, dating back to 2016.
