Transient Man Arrested for Reckless Burning in Marina Fire Incident

MARINA, CA  —  ”On 04/25/05 at about 0035 hours, Marina Officers were dispatched to the area of Beach Rd and Melanie Rd in reference to several large Eucalyptus trees and a fence that were on fire. The fire was threatening a nearby church (Canaan Korean United Methodist Church) and several callers reported the incident.

Upon officers’ arrival, a transient male (Sean Canava 39-years old) was observed exiting the wooded area and admitted to officers that he set the fire. Officers attempted to detain Canava for further investigation; however, he resisted. After a struggle, Canava was taken into custody without further incident. Medical aid was provided and no injuries were reported. Canava was subsequently transported to the Monterey County Jail where he was booked for 452(d)PC-Reckless burning and 148(a)(1) PC- Resist/Obstruct Officers.
No structures were damaged and no injuries were reported from the fire.”
