Suspect Arrested Following Vehicle Pursuit Linked to Multiple Thefts

EL CENTRO, CA  ––  On Saturday April 26th, dayshift patrol officers with the El Centro Police Department located a vehicle believed to be connected to multiple thefts reported in El Centro and San Diego County. The driver of the vehicle was also identified as having an active felony warrant issued out of Riverside County. Officers attempted an enforcement stop; however, the driver failed to yield, initiating a pursuit.

The pursuit continued onto the westbound lanes of Interstate 8, heading toward San Diego, where the suspect resides. The El Centro Police Department coordinated efforts with the California Highway Patrol and the United States Border Patrol to apprehend the individual. Assistance from the United States Border Patrol included the deployment of spike strips at the Border Patrol checkpoint. The suspect’s vehicle struck the spike strips, bringing the pursuit to an end.

Following the stop, the suspect was taken into custody without further incident. Detectives conducted an interview with the suspect regarding the ongoing theft investigations in El Centro. The individual was later booked into the Imperial County Jail on several felony charges, including charges related to the active warrant.
