“OCOTILLO, Calif. – El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents arrested two individuals attempting to smuggle methamphetamine through the immigration checkpoint Saturday night.
The incident occurred at approximately 11:30 p.m., when a tan Honda Accord approached the Highway 86 immigration checkpoint. Agents directed the vehicle to enter the secondary inspection area for further investigation.
During their inspection, a Border Patrol K-9 detection team alerted to the vehicle. Agents discovered 28 egg shaped packages wrapped in tape inside a white plastic bag. The contents inside the packages tested positive for the characteristics of methamphetamine. Agents arrested the two individuals and held them for further processing.
The total weight of the methamphetamine was approximately 7.73 pounds with an estimated value of $21,257.
El Centro Sector turned over the driver, a 36-year-old man, the passenger, 31-year-old woman, both Unites States citizens, the vehicle, and the narcotics to U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration.
