ROHNERT PARK — A driver pursued from Rohnert Park to San Rafael is in custody ineligible for
release on bond, pending further review. Casey J. Beck, 36, of Antioch, was arrested by Rohnert Park
police with help from three law enforcement agencies.
First, an automated license plate reader alerted Rohnert Park PD about a vehicle associated with a
recent felony. The vehicle was traveling near Sonoma State University, when an officer stopped it on
East Cotati Avenue. As the officer approached, Beck reversed and fled. Two other officers near patrol
cars were almost hit.
Rohnert Park officers pursued Beck, but terminated the pursuit in the interest of public safety. Beck
was driving erratically and against oncoming traffic. Rohnert Park police broadcast an alert.
A California Highway Patrol officer saw the suspect driving southbound on U.S. Highway 101
towards Marin County. CHP pursued the vehicle until Lucas Valley Road, where the driver veered into
northbound lanes—while driving southbound.
CHP and San Rafael officers stopped northbound freeway traffic at the Interstate 580 interchange. A
Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office helicopter overhead followed the driver to San Rafael. The driver
collided with a San Rafael police car, and another vehicle stopped on the freeway.
Beck was transported to Marin General Hospital for medical clearance, before being turned over to
Rohnert Park police. Beck was booked at Sonoma County Jail on January 13 at 10:37 p.m. He was
booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, evading, driving on the wrong side of the road and resisting an officer.
Since 2015, Beck has been arrested 10 times, including three arrests involving vehicle thefts.
