Santa Rosa police have reportedly arrested an individual for the alleged hit-and-run of a pedestrian last week.
On the night of Thursday, August 1, Santa Rosa police received a 911 call reporting a vehicle versus pedestrian collision on Hearn Avenue at the SMART tracks. The driver of the vehicle reportedly left the scene.
Officers, along with medical and fire personnel, responded to the scene and discovered an unconscious and severely injured adult male near the railroad tracks. The victim suffered severe head trauma and was transported by ambulance to an area hospital, where he reportedly remains in critical condition.
The identity and city of residence of the victim have not been publicly disclosed.
Santa Rosa PD accident investigators were called to the scene to take over the investigation. The investigators obtained access to footage from an exterior security camera on a residence on the 800 block of Hearn Avenue which recorded the collision.
The video showed the suspect vehicle driving west on Hearn Avenue and striking the victim as he attempted to cross the street. The vehicle stopped briefly, but left after approximately 1.5 minutes, continuing west on Hearn Avenue, according to police.
Investigators identified the vehicle as a newer model white Lexus sedan, but the video did not capture the license plate or any identifying features of the occupants.
Investigators also reviewed footage from a mounted Flock Safety camera at the intersection of Hearn Avenue and Corby Avenue. This camera reportedly captured a white 2014 Lexus IS250 entering the intersection just prior to the collision, and successfully captured the license plate number.
Using this information, investigators obtained the address of the registered owner.
Investigators visited the address registered to the vehicle, located on the 1900 block of Blue Sky Lane. They learned that Alejandra Vasquez, 19, had been involved in a collision and that the vehicle she had been driving was parked in the garage.
Based on the evidence and damage to the vehicle, investigators reportedly believe Vasquez was the one driving the vehicle at the time of the accident.
Vasquez was arrested and booked into Sonoma County jail on suspicion of felony hit-and-run causing serious injury. Investigators reportedly do not believe Vasquez was under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time of the collision.
