A San Mateo man has reportedly been arrested for the alleged murder of his pregnant partner and their unborn child.
In a press release, the San Mateo Police Department announced that they had begun an investigation into the murder of a 37-year-old woman over the weekend. She was almost nine months pregnant at the time of her death, police said.
Authorities have not released the name of the victim.
In the same press release, authorities identified the primary suspect as the victim’s live-in boyfriend, Andrew Coleman, 33.
According to police, officers responded to a home on the 1300 block of South B St. on the evening of Sunday, August 4, to investigate a report of a pregnant woman in “full arrest.” Police reportedly also requested crowd control due tot he presence of several “despondent” family members at the scene.
Responding officers and paramedics pronounced the victims deceased at the scene.
Coleman was not at the location at the time, police said.
Investigators soon determined that Coleman had fled to southern California, and requested the assistance of various law enforcement agencies in the region, including the California Highway Patrol and Los Angeles Police Department.
Coleman was ultimately located and arrested in West Covina, within five hours of the initial call to the scene in San Mateo, police said.
The investigation remains active and ongoing.
