The California Highway Patrol recently arrested an individual who was allegedly found asleep out in his car with drugs in his lap.
According to a press release by the Shasta County Interagency Narcotics Task Force, the California Highway Patrol received a call about a driver asleep behind the wheel at the stoplight of the Interstate 5 offramp at South Bonnyview Road on the afternoon of Sunday, June 2.
The driver, later identified as Dustin Dante Dalessio, 35, reportedly was found with multiple bags of narcotics in his lap.
California Highway Patrol responded to the scene and woke up Delasio, moving him and his vehicle out of the roadway.
Officers searched of the vehicle and reportedly uncovered a little over one pound of suspected methamphetamine, about three ounces of suspected fentanyl, other items indicative of narcotics sales, and around $900 in US currency.
Authorities say that Dalessio is also currently on felony probation for possession and transportation of narcotics for sales purposes.
The Shasta Interagency Narcotics Task Force was called to the scene and took over the investigation.
Due to Dalessio’s active probation status, the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office AB109 compliance team also responded.
Dalessio was arrested on suspicion of transportation and possession of narcotics for sales and was booked into the Shasta County jail.
A probation search was later conducted at Dalessio’s residence on the 6500 block of Riverland Drive in Redding. During the search, additional items indicative of narcotics sales were found, the California Highway Patrol said.
