Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office Releases Name of Suspect Killed in Officer-Involved Shooting

The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office has announced new details in connection with a recent officer-involved shooting.

In a press release, the Sheriff’s Office identified Kevin Jeffrey Burks, 32, as the individual killed by police gunfire during a “critical incident” in Eureka on April 27 of this year.

A forensic autopsy later confirmed that the cause of Burk’s death was a gunshot wound to the chest.

The victim in the initial incident, described as a 75-year-old woman, was treated at an out of area hospital. She has continued her treatment at an area rehabilitation facility, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

The investigation into the incident is active and ongoing.
