The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the whereabouts and arrest of a person suspected in connection to a recent double homicide.
Police responded shortly after 12 AM on Tuesday, December 27, to a residence on the 4000 block of Crane Street in Eureka regarding a 9-1-1 call in which someone was yelling and a child could be heard screaming, the Sheriff’s Office said in a press release.
While en route, deputies learned there’d been a shooting at the location and that someone had been injured.
Responding deputies arrived at the scene and discovered three people who had sustained gunshot injuries. Two of the victims, identified as an adult male and adult female, respectively, were pronounced dead at the scene. The third victim, an adult female, was transported to an area hospital for emergency surgery. Her current condition is unknown.
A 4-year-old child was also found at the scene. The child was unharmed and has been taken into the care of Child Welfare Services, the Sheriff’s Office said.
The Sheriff’s Office later learned that there’d been a fourth victim, another adult female, who had been dropped off at the hospital by the suspect himself and underwent immediate emergency surgery. She is reportedly in stable condition.
The suspect has been identified as 41-year-old Russell Martin Albers of McKinleyville.
Albers’ current location is unknown, and the Sheriff’s Office is asking that anyone who sees him contact 9-1-1 to report his whereabouts. Anyone with information relevant to the case is encouraged to contact the Sheriff’s Office at (707) 445-7251 or the Sheriff’s Office Tip Line at (707) 268-2539.
