Mother and Accomplice Arrested in Live Oak Child Abuse Case

“On 4/10/2024 around 3:30 pm, our Dispatch Unit received a call for a suspected child abuse on the 9000 block of Maple Park in Live Oak. The reporting party stated that a 4-year-old had significant facial injuries. This incident was said to have occurred around 8:30 am the same day and the mother, 38- year-old Christina Brokenbrough of Live Oak, was advised to call law enforcement, she failed to do so. Once on scene, Deputies confirmed the extremities of the juvenile’s injuries and she was transported to the Adventist Health and Ride Out Medical Center, then later transported to UC Davis Medical for further assessment, non-life threatening. At the time of this Press Release, the juvenile is out of medical care and safe. Investigative measures were taken, and the suspect was identified as 27-year-old Jamahl Alqahhaar of Yuba City. Alqahhaar had fled the scene prior to Deputies arrival and was located by our Detective Unit in Biggs. Alqahhaar was taken into custody and booked into the Sutter County Jail for excessive force, corporal injury on a child, attempted murder, and child abuse with great bodily injury/death. The mother, Brokenbrough, was arrested and charged with corporal injury on a child and child abuse with great bodily injury/death.”
