Transient Arrested for Attempted Murder of a Man Inside a Car

SAN RAFAEL —A dispute between two men landed one man in Marin County Jail. Efrain Hernandez- Gonzalez, a 26-year-old painter, faces an attempted murder charge for allegedly shooting at the other man. The suspect is a transient who stays in San Rafael.

The victim drove to San Rafael police headquarters on April 15 shortly after 7:30 p.m. He reported that he was inside his car when the suspect shot at him. The gunman pointed a handgun and fired a single shot through the windshield, according to the police report.

The victim ducked moments before the gun was fired to avoid injury. The gunfire occurred near the intersection of Andersen Drive and Rice Drive. It happened within earshot of the Mercedes-Benz of Marin dealership.

San Rafael police said in a prepared statement. “It is believed the incident happened about one hour before the report was made.” Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect and victim had an ongoing dispute, which culminated in the shooting.

Hernandez-Gonzalez was considered as armed and dangerous. Detectives saw him the following day on Andersen Drive. Detectives with assistance from the Marin County Sheriff’s Office watched him until additional police arrived.

Uniformed officers placed Hernandez-Gonzalez under arrest on April 16 at 4:14 p.m. He was apprehended at the corner of Andersen Drive and Irwin Street.

Hernandez-Gonzalez faces open charges including attempted murder. His other charges involve probation violation, failure to register as a sex offender, and obstructing/resisting an officer.
