Stanislaus County Man Arrested on Suspicion of Murder, Accused of Intentionally Striking Woman with Car

“Detectives with the Modesto Police Department Violent Crimes Unit have arrested Ruben Olvera, 32 years old, of Ceres, CA for the homicide which occurred last night, February 16th, just before 9 pm.
Last night, Modesto Police Department Officers responded to the area of 6th St at the SR99 NB offramp to assist CHP with a reported collision involving a vehicle and pedestrian. The involved vehicle had fled the scene, while the pedestrian was located on the on ramp and transported to a local area hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries.
During the investigation, responding Officers learned this was an assault which had occurred within the jurisdiction of MPD. Detectives with the Violent Crimes Unit responded and took over the investigation.
Detectives worked tirelessly throughout the night, collecting and processing evidence which had been located. Based off this evidence, Ruben was identified as the suspect in this deadly assault.
As the investigation continued throughout the day, with Detectives preparing to locate and arrest Ruben, he turned himself in to a uniformed Patrol Sergeant in the downtown area today, Feb 17th, just after 3pm.
This is still an active investigation. The victim was known to Ruben, and it appears they had been involved in a relationship. The details of the relationship are still being investigated. Ruben was booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center for 187 PC – Homicide, and 273.5 PC – Domestic Violence.
