Originally published by the Petaluma Police Department:

“Yesterday, January 2nd, a resident in the 400 Block of Bodega Avenue called to report that an unidentified male was attempting to enter her home. The male became scared off by her dogs before entering a vehicle, and driving away.

Around 9am multiple calls were received from the area of Eden Lane, reporting an unknown male (later identified as Hans Schweitzer from Montana) as entering several homes and attempting to enter additional homes in the area.

Early in the investigation, Schweitzer was identified as the same prowler reported minutes earlier at the Bodega Avenue address.

Once at Eden Court, Schweitzer attempted to enter one residence but was unsuccessful. Schweitzer approached another residence and entered the home. Once inside the residence, Schweitzer pinned an adult female resident against the wall and attempted to kiss her. A struggle ensued and the female resident was successful in freeing herself and called 911 as she and her young child fled to a nearby neighbors’ residence. Schweitzer fled from that home and attempted to gain access to another home but was unsuccessful. Schweitzer then crossed over onto Cherry Street and entered another residence and was rifling through the kitchen when he was confronted by the male occupant. The male resident physically struggled with Schweitzer to remove him from his home. Schweitzer ultimately fled from that home and was confronted by nearby neighbors who detained him until police officers arrived on scene.

Schweitzer was placed under arrest, transported, and booked at the Sonoma County Adult Detention Facility for two violations of burglary, two attempted burglaries, assault with intent to commit sexual assault, and false imprisonment. Due to the egregious nature of the violations, a bail enhancement was sought and obtained in the amount of $1.5 million.”
