SAN LEANDRO — Two suspects discovered nodding out inside a vehicle have been arrested for murder at a barbershop. Two firearms and illicit drugs were confiscated from the men later booked into Alameda County Santa Rita Jail.

The homicide victim was fatally shot October 25 at Harrison Brothers barbershop, 2240 East 14th Street in San Leandro. The two suspects involved are Alexis Garcia, 26, of Oakland, and Casey Turner, 29, of Pittsburg.

The two nodding suspects were blocking traffic in Oakland, when California Highway Patrol officers approached. Garcia and Turner woke up and drove away before Garcia abandoned the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot. Nevertheless, the CHP apprehended both of them.

Further investigation revealed San Leandro police wanted Garcia for the barbershop homicide. Garcia and Turner face multiple charges involving the homicide; evading arrest, possession of firearms and illicit drugs.

Both suspects have been in custody since October 25. Garcia is ineligible for release on bond, pending a court hearing on December 19. Turner remains in custody in lieu of $395,000 bond. Turner has a court hearing scheduled for December 26.

Garcia has been arrested 23 times since 2015, for offenses including burglary, carjacking, drug possession and vehicle theft. He has prior convictions for second-degree robbery and domestic violence.

Turner has been arrested 11 times since 2019, for assault, battery, robbery, and various firearms-related offenses. He has convictions for second-degree murder, discharge of a firearm and second-degree robbery. He also has prior juvenile criminal convictions.
