Modesto Teenager Identified as Suspect in Fatal Shooting

On September 3, 2022, Scott Bates Jr. was found shot in a vehicle parked in the 100 block of Imperial Ave in Modesto, he was pronounced deceased at the scene. A motive is unknown at this time, but multiple search warrants have been authored to further investigate the circumstances surrounding this incident. After several months of investigation detectives were able to identify a 16-year-old of Modesto, as a suspect.

On November 8, 2023, the minor was taken into custody and transported to Juvenile Hall where he was booked for homicide. The Sheriff’s Department Major Crimes Unit will continue to investigate the circumstances related to this homicide.
