MODESTO, CA – The Modesto Police Department has announced an arrest in connection with the homicide of 37-year-old Juan Carreon. The incident took place on April 9, 2026, in the vicinity of the Neece boat ramp located in the 700 block of Neece Drive.
On the afternoon of April 9, at approximately 4:00 p.m., officers arrived at the scene following reports of an individual down. They discovered Carreon, a resident of Modesto, with multiple injuries. Medical personnel pronounced him deceased at the location.
Following the initial response, detectives conducted an investigation that led to the identification of 41-year-old Juan Trujillo Mendoza, also of Modesto, as the suspect. Mendoza has been apprehended and booked into custody on murder charges.
The Modesto Police Department credited the identification and arrest of the suspect to the efforts of its detectives and patrol officers. While an arrest has been made, the investigation remains active. Authorities have requested that anyone possessing further information regarding the case contact Detective Keyon Turner or provide an anonymous tip through Crime Stoppers.
