Marina Police Apprehend Machete-Wielding Suspect

MARINA, CA – On Tuesday, November 7th, 2023, at approximately 2:47 PM, Marina Police officers swiftly responded to a distressing report of a male subject actively chasing individuals with a large machete at the intersection of 8th Street and 1st Avenue. The suspect, later identified as 67-year-old Joseph Anton Clark from Felton, CA, was promptly located by officers upon their arrival in the area.

Clark was observed attempting to evade authorities by fleeing through the surrounding brush. Responding officers efficiently established a perimeter, successfully containing the suspect and facilitating his safe apprehension without further incident.

Upon his arrest, officers discovered the machete and Clark’s backpack. Subsequent examination of the backpack revealed drug paraphernalia and approximately 7 pounds of marijuana. In addition to the initial charges of making threats, brandishing a weapon, and assault with a deadly weapon, Clark now faces additional charges of possession of drug paraphernalia and marijuana for sales.

Further complicating Clark’s legal situation, it was revealed that he had an active arrest warrant from Santa Cruz County related to a prior assault with a deadly weapon. The charges associated with this warrant include assault causing great bodily injury.

Joseph Anton Clark is currently lodged in the Monterey County Jail, facing a spectrum of charges that include 245(a)(1) PC (Assault with a deadly weapon), 422(a) PC (Criminal Threats), 417(a)(1) PC (Brandishing a weapon), 11359(b) H&S (Possession of marijuana for sale), and 11364(a) H&S (Possession of drug paraphernalia). His bail has been set at $60,000.
