44-year-old Santa Ynez resident Jennifer Marie Wilson, also known as Jennifer Marie Kahrs, has been charged with the offense of filing a false report of a crime in connection with the investigation conducted by the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office into the October, 2022 demise of her 72-year-old father, Terry Lee Wilson.

According to the Santa Maria Police Department’s investigative report, Jennifer Wilson claimed that her former boyfriend, Santa Ynez resident Rylen Svane-Morris, unlawfully entered her residence resulting in a confrontation “involving a crowbar” which led to the death of her father.

Based on her report Svane-Morris was apprehended on suspicion of murder and other charges. But two months later, when Terry Lee Wilson’s health issues were determined to have contributed to his death and text messages were discovered that indicated Svane-Morris had in truth been invited to the residence, all murder charges were dropped and he was released from custody

In spite of subsequent autopsy findings indicating the absence of physical injuries to Wilson, Jennifer Wilson repeated the same misinformation regarding Svane-Morris’ alleged involvement in her father’s death to the local media. Additional investigation into the matter indicated that Jennifer Wilson continued to falsely report a criminal offense which resulted in Svane-Morris being unjustly deprived of his freedom.

On July 6th , Jennifer Wilson was charged with filing a false report of a criminal offense, which carries a potential penalty of up to 180 days of incarceration in the county jail, a fine of up to $1,000, or both imprisonment and a fine.
